When life overwhelms…

I slept horrible last night…so much on my heart and mind and feeling so overwhelmed by all that’s going on with my friends and family members that’s out of their control as well as mine.

As I took a pause to get away by myself to pray through it all…I was reminded that Jesus felt that too. In Matthew 14…Jesus had just found out John the Baptist had died (that was his cousin and the one who baptized Him and prepared the way for Jesus to come). After hearing about it, He left for a secluded place in a boat to be alone but when He got ashore the people had followed Him. I might be a little annoyed….just to be honest. Vs 14 says…He had compassion on them and healed their sick. Even though His heart was grieving and overwhelmed…His heart of compassion and empathy compelled Him to heal the sick and to minister to a great crowd…regardless of how He felt! His love compelled Him.

The chapter continues with him feeding the 5000 that had gathered and then again He went off by Himself to the mountain to pray. But guess what?! His disciples were caught in a storm and needed Him so He walks on the water to tell them not to be afraid, and then gets in the boat with them and they go to the shore where once again the people are gathered and He begins to heal them.

No matter what your need is…how overwhelmed you may feel with LIFE…Jesus’ heart beats with compassion for you. He doesn’t tell you to just deal with it/get over it…but instead comes to where you are to heal you, have compassion on you, tell you not to be afraid and then gets in the boat with you. He walks on the storms that threaten to take you under and He says…do not be afraid.

So what do we do when we feel overwhelmed? He left us an example: get away…by yourself…and pray. Your Father in Heaven is listening and He cares what’s going on.

“For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but MY steadfast love SHALL NOT depart from you, and my covenant of peace SHALL NOT be removed,” says the Lord, who has COMPASSION on you.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭54:10‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Hang in there! He’s right beside you!
